Andy Irons

Andy Irons (Oahu, July 24, 1978 - Dallas, November 2, 2010) was a professional surfer, surfing world champion in three -2002, 2003 and 2004 times.
Irons began as all professional surfer on the WQS (World Qualifying Series) where he spent 3 years (from 1995 to 1997, both inclusive). Already in the ASP World Tour since 1998, Irons has been world champion in 2002, 2003 and 2004, starring great sports rivalries between him and Kelly Slater and among the sponsors of both giants Billabong and Quiksilver surf, respectively.

In the last decade, Andy Irons was the only one able to stand up to the powerful Kelly Slater.
Andy Irons dominated surfing backside like few others, despite being 'regular', with its powerful loose style but dominated the Pipeline (remember that was from Oahu) to its consecration in Olympus surfing in 2002.
Another reason for which he will be remembered is his death at age 32 and the circumstances in which they occurred. On November 2, 2010 his body was found lifeless in a hotel in Dallas. According to family and Billabong, Irons had contracted dengue fever in the world circuit test in October in Peniche (Portugal). Subsequently, sick and feverish, leave the Puerto Rico tournament to return to Hawaii with his wife (about to give birth). He never came home.
